Endometrial scratching is a procedure that is used for the implantation of the embryos more successfully after the In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) or Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ISCI) procedures. In Endometrial scratching, a biopsy of the uterus lining (endometrium) is taken using a thin catheter inserted through the cervix. As is involves taking a biopsy, this procedure is also sometimes referred to as endometrial biopsy. An endometrial biopsy can be combined with hysteroscopy procedure.
It is generally suggested to patients who have had repeated unsuccessful IVF cycles, despite having good quality embryo transplantation. It is recommended to go for an endometrial scratch testing a week after ovulation (close to woman’s next period) or 7-10 days prior to starting an IVF cycle or frozen embryo transfer (FET) cycle.
Endometrial scratching may helpin increasing the chances of a pregnancy for couples trying to conceive naturally or with Intrauterine Insemination (IUI).
